Rolls-Royce “Apparition”

This amazing Rolls-Royce concept car called the “Apparition” was created by Jeremy Westerlund of Dallas, Texas.
He designed it as an independent project while studying at the Art Center of the School of Design. The design offers sharp geometric lines, a massive hood and large 23-inch wheels. This concept is a great blend of classic design elements and futuristic ones.Although just a design for the time being, the model itself is nearly six feet long, and in reality would measure over 23 feet long, or four feet longer than the Phantom saloon.

Sbarro Evoluzione unveiled at Geneva

Not to be outdone by Lamborghini’s efforts at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Espera Sbarro design school has unveiled this aggressive looking piece at the show in Switzerland. It’s called the Sbarro Evoluzione.
 It features a Lamborghini-esque body only it appears to have been hacked at by a large machete. The front end is ‘conventional’ in its design and features a sharp pointy nose typically seen on other hypercars. The rear, however, is where Sbarro goes nuts. There is no rear.Exposing the entire rear suspension set-up and the engine, the Sbarro Evoluzione is sure to set itself apart from the rest of the timid and tame hypercars out there. The Evoluzione concept was built without the constraints that production cars normally have to keep in mind.Overall, the design took 25 students just 13 weeks to complete – they eagerly wanted to make sure this car was one of the star attractions at the show. Pierre Guenebaut, a teacher at Espera Sbarro, said at the unveiling of the car, “Being present at the Geneva Motor Show is a reward for them. They will have the opportunity to explain their project to the public while investing in relationships and communication.”nside that exposed rear section sits a rather boring 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine borrowed from Audi. It outputs a soothing 134kW of power. Seating layout is arranged in a McLaren F1 fashion with the driver front and centre while two passengers take ‘wingmen’ seats to the right and left.The Sbarro Evoluzione is only a concept car at this stage, with no production plans announced.

1968 Pontiac GTO

This is probably the most famous advertisement that few people actually saw. The year was 1968. Pontiac was on a roll with its Pontiac GTO advertising with its blend of performance imagery and tiger theme.
However, GM management decreed that no division could produce ads that encouraged reckless driving. So how could Pontiac show off the performance of its GTO? They did it by creating the perfect implied ad. The ad looks harmless enough: two men sitting in a Verdoro Green 1968 Pontiac GTO in the crossover median of a road by some trees. The ad copy reads “The Great One by Pontiac. You know the rest of the story.” “The Great One” referred to the GTO but what was the “rest of the story?” The sign behind the car gave the answer. Woodward Avenue in Detroit was the place for street drag racing and was famous nationwide. Therefore, the knowledgeable reader realized that the two men were waiting for someone to race. Unfortunately, GM management saw the hidden meaning too. The ad ran just once, in the March 1967 (?) issue of Motor Trend, before GM Management ordered it pulled.

The Mercier-Jones hovercraft was inspired by sports cars

The Mercier-Jones Concept pictured on this page is a futuristic yet modern hovercraft concept, based on the high end supercars of today. It reportedly is a lot easier to maneuver, environmentally friendly and more silent than any other hovercraft of today.
In addition, given the almost non-existent maneuverability of these machines, they have also put together a patent-pending directional control system which will supposedly enable the craft to brake and steer similarly to a car. At a closer approach this is due to the fact that the front, side mounted fans provide fine tuned control in reverse, lateral and forward directions, with independent control over each side, which enables advanced maneuverability.

In solidarity to other machinery industries like automotive, aerospace and marine, Mercier-Jones Concept will be crafted from high end, lightweight materials, like marine plywood, fiberglass, carbon fiber and aluminum. But, due to modern manufacture techniques and existing technologies, we shouldn’t reportedly expect this thing to come at a very high price.
